OK. You have lousy contractors! Where is their dumpster?! Does your contract say anything in it about clean up of the premises? If so, take them to task. I definitely would have cried if I came home to that.

Kitchens are the hardest. Washing dishes in a plastic tub for 2 months felt like I was car camping. I wish I had gotten a laundry/utility sink as a temporary holdover. I did buy some paper plates and bowls for awhile, which helps. Being without a stove for awhile and always having food on the wrong side of a plastic curtain also made me realize I should have invested in an instant pot as it would have saved me from (shudder) microwave dinners.

Ditto on the dirt and dust. Consider it a way of boosting your immunity and tolerance to allergens. 🙂

Ditto on the safe haven. I regret that we didn’t have much of a storage solution while our kitchen remodel happened (every other room on the first floor had pieces of kitchen equipment and stuff in it). I looked into renting a storage pod when I renovated the upstairs, and it was really pricey. We ended up buying a storage shed to store a bunch of our furniture in with the idea that we could repurpose it or sell it when all the renovations end.

By the way, if the rough plumbing is done and the faucet is on site, the countertop person should be able to install the countertop and cut the appropriate holes for the faucet, and you can have the plumber actually do the final hook up on a later day.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the craziness will end soon for you all.

Our contractors are perfect gentlemen when we are around. They have even offered to accommodate Jack’s naptime by working in areas of the house that would not be as disruptive to him. But while we were gone? Whoa. Night and daY. Their dumpster is behind our property and they do a much better job of cleaning up after themselves now that they know we’re paying attention. At this point we’re just biding our time until it is all over.
